SB 408 INSPECT Program
The full bill and more information can be found here.
Adds a definition of the Indiana board of pharmacy for purposes of the INSPECT program. Requires the board to report before December 1, 2017 to the legislative council concerning grants or funding received and applied for by the state for integration of the INSPECT program data base with electronic health records. Urges the legislative council to assign to the appropriate study committee the topic of potential improvements to the INSPECT program. Allows access to certain INSPECT information by individuals who meet certain criteria.
Relevance for Pharmacists:
These are essentially technicalities to further improve INSPECT and work towards merging it with electronic health records so prescribers may have a more complete idea of a patient’s controlled substance use before providing a prescription. It also allows access to certain INSPECT info by individuals such as registered epidemiologists.
Effective Date: July 1st, 2017
