Announcing APhA’s New CEO/EVP

By APhA on 2/3/2020

To all our APhA friends and colleagues,

We are pleased to tell you that the Board of Trustees has selected Scott J. Knoer, MS, PharmD, FASHP,  to be the 13th Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice President of APhA. He plans to start working alongside Tom Menighan on May 1 and will officially assume his duties on July 1, upon Tom’s retirement.

Scott has been the Chief Pharmacy Officer of the Cleveland Clinic for the last nine years. He oversees nearly 1,600 pharmacy FTEs at the Clinic’s 1300-bed tertiary care referral hospital, its clinics and cancer center, 18 family health centers and 11 community hospitals in the Cleveland area. He’s very excited about the opportunity  to bring the advocacy skills he sharpened at the Cleveland Clinic to the entire profession. He is a graduate of the University of Nebraska College of Pharmacy. Prior to joining the Cleveland Clinic, he held leadership positions in pharmacy at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Fairview, Minn. and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Tex. He completed his residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Scott was selected following a comprehensive nationwide search. There were many wonderful candidates for the job, but ultimately it was Scott’s energy and his inspiring vision for pharmacy, our members and for our association that carried the day. And yes, he is a member of APhA!

This is an exciting moment in the history of APhA, and we hope you will provide him with the renowned APhA welcome!

From Tom:
Congratulations to Dr. Scott Knoer on his selection as the CEO of APhA to succeed me on July 1! I’m pleased with the board's diligence and their excellent selection. Scott brings tremendous talents, perspectives and experiences to us. I look forward to optimizing the transition. Thank you to the SMT for your support of the process and for your patience during uncertain times. I am blessed to work with the entire Team APhA and look forward to supporting you in new ways in the future.

Dr. Knoer will be introduced to the staff on Tuesday, and you will have the opportunity to meet him at the Annual Meeting in March. Have a great week!
