Who is eligible to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician?

Candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent educational degree
  • Full disclosure of all criminal and State Board of Pharmacy registration or licensure actions
  • Compliance with all applicable PTCB Certification policies
  • Passing score on the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam

What is the exam format and content?

The Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam is an electronic exam administered at Pearson Testing Centers and was developed to determine if technicians had demonstrated the knowledge necessary to practice as pharmacy technicians in various practice settings.

The exam is composed of 90 multiple-choice questions, 80 scored and 10 un-scored, with four possible answer choices. Only one answer is correct for each question. The un-scored questions are not identified on the exam. The exam must be completed over the course of two hours unless you apply for specific accomodations. How do I schedule to take an exam?

Once your application has been submitted, PTCB will evaluate your application and allow you to schedule your exam. You will receive your authorization to schedule through your email address associated with your application. Following notification through email, you have 90 days to schedule your exam.
