Annual Awards

IPA presents awards annually to pharmacists who have gone above and beyond in their respective fields of pharmacy. To nominate a pharmacist, please fill out and email this form to ipacarol@indianapharmacists.org

Beyond Dispensing Award

Sponsored by the Indiana Academy of Non-traditional Pharmacists (IANTP)

This award is presented to recognize and honor a pharmacist, pharmacy technician or student pharmacist who has demonstrated excellence in expanding the practice of pharmacy outside of the traditional practice setting boundaries of dispensing and distribution and has demonstrated value to unique and innovative roles.
 
 

Cardinal Health Generation RX Champion

Sponsored by Cardinal Health

This award recognizes a pharmacist who has demonstrated excellence in community-based prescription drug abuse prevention. The award is intended to recognize outstanding efforts within the pharmacy community to raise awareness of this serious public health problem. It is also intended to encourage educational prevention efforts aimed at patients, youth, and other members of the community. The criteria for this award are as follows:

  • Submission of a letter from the nominator to provide specific examples of how the candidate has made significant, influential and sustained contributions to the pharmacy practice in Indiana.
  • Submission of up to 4 letters of recommendation (all letters of support must be signed by the author). Emailed letters must contain an electronic signature.
  • Submission of current, full curriculum vitae or detailed resume of the nominee.

 

Distinguished Bowl of Hygeia Award

Sponsored by APhA/NASPA/Boehringer Ingelheim

The “Bowl of Hygeia” Award is presented yearly for outstanding community service.  The criteria for this award are as follows:

  • Must be a pharmacist, licensed within the jurisdiction in which the award is made.
  • Must be living. Awards are not presented posthumously.
  • Has not previously received the award.
  • Is not currently serving nor has he/she served within the immediate past two years on its awards committee or as an officer of the association in other than an ex-officio capacity.
  • Has compiled an outstanding record of community service, which, apart from his/her specific identification as a pharmacist, reflects well on the profession.

 

Distinguished Legislator of the Year

Sponsored by the Indiana Pharmacists Association

This award is to recognize and honor an individual who has made far reaching, sustained contributions to legislation improving patient care in the state of Indiana.

 

Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award

Sponsored by Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company

Each year Pharmacists Mutual Companies presents the Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award. This award was designed to encourage young pharmacists to become involved in association activities and civic projects. This award recognizes pharmacists in each state for individual excellence and outstanding contribution to their pharmacy association and community. The criteria for this award are as follows:

  • Hold an entry degree in Pharmacy received less than 9 years ago.
  • Be licensed to practice in state in which selected.
  • Hold current membership in the state pharmacy association.
  • Practice retail, institutional, or consulting pharmacy in the year selected.
  • Participate in national pharmacy associations, professional programs, state association activities, and/or community service.

 

Donald L. Moore Independent Pharmacist of the Year

Sponsored by the Indiana Academy of Independent Pharmacists (IAIP)

This award is presented to a pharmacist who advocates for independent pharmacy and works to elevate the profession.  The criteria for this award are as follows:

  • Must have owned or worked in an independently-owned pharmacy located in Indiana.
  • Demonstrate exceptional dedication to the profession of pharmacy in their workplace.
  • Show involvement in his/her local community.
  • Agree to attend the Indiana Pharmacists Alliance Annual Convention to receive the award.

 

Excellence in Innovation Award

Sponsored by Upsher-Smith Laboratories

The “Excellence in Innovation" Award was introduced in 1993 as a way to honor innovative and pro-active approaches to enhanced patient care. This national award includes a piece of beautiful framed artwork to be displayed in the pharmacy depicting patient care techniques. The criterion for this award is:

  • The recipient has demonstrated significant innovation in their respective pharmacy practice resulting in improved patient care.

 

Glen Sperandio Health-System Pharmacist of the Year

Sponsored by Indiana Academy of Health-System Pharmacists (ISHP)

This award is the highest honor that ISHP gives to a practicing pharmacist, and any practicing hospital pharmacist in the state is eligible. The award recognizes superior achievement and services of a deserving individual.  The criteria for this award are as follows:

  • Demonstrates outstanding service in pharmacy practice.
  • Serves in professional organizations.
  • Provides outstanding service to the community.
  • Demonstrates positive interaction with other health care workers.

 

Joseph E. McSoley Community Pharmacist of the Year

Sponsored by the Indiana Academy of Community Pharmacists (IACP)

This award was created in 1986 to recognize a veteran pharmacist who exemplifies the qualities of the pharmacist honored as the namesake of the award, Joseph E. McSoley. Joe gave many years of faithful and caring service to the members of the IPA.  The criteria for this award are as follows:

  • Hold a license to practice in Indiana.
  • Has practiced as a pharmacist for ten years or more.
  • Must not be currently serving as one of the executive officers of the Alliance.
  • Must not be a previous recipient of the award.
  • Has demonstrated long-term commitment and service to the profession of pharmacy.
  • Has demonstrated long-term commitment and service to state pharmacy organizations.
  • Has been involved in community and civic affairs.
  • Must be a member of the Alliance in the year nominated.

 

Medication Safety- Healthcare Organization

Sponsored by the Indiana Pharmacists Association

The IPA Medication Safety Award is presented to a healthcare organization that demonstrates a dynamic and enthusiastic commitment to medication-use safety through innovative and creative projects, programs, educational efforts, and/or research. Winning organizations have implemented medication safety strategies into their organization, including a culture of safety among the staff and the following criteria:

  • Commitment to the safe use of medications over time through innovative and creative practice techniques.
  • Commitment to the concept of a “Culture of Safety” through the organization.
  • Effectiveness in their current practice with regard to medication safety.
  • Willingness to share learning regarding medication safety through presentation, written articles, participation in collaborative groups and other methods (newsletters, intranet, webinars, etc).

In addition to a nomination, an essay describing how the nominee has met the award criteria should be submitted (max 1500 words)

 

Medication Safety - Individual Practitioner

Sponsored by the Indiana Pharmacists Association

The IPA Medication Safety Award is presented to individual healthcare practitioners that demonstrate a dynamic and enthusiastic commitment to medication-use safety through innovative and creative projects, programs, educational efforts, and/or research. Winning individuals have implemented medication safety strategies into their daily clinical practice and display the following criteria:

  • Commitment to the safe use of medications over time through innovative and creative practice techniques.
  • Effectiveness in current practice with regard to mediation safety.
  • Willingness to share learning regarding medication safety through presentation, written articles, participation in collaborative groups and other methods (newsletters, intranet, webinars, etc)

In addition to a nomination, an essay describing how the nominee has met the award criteria should be submitted (max 1500 words)

 

Outstanding Pharmacy Technician of the Year

Sponsored by the Indiana Pharmacists Association

The nominee should be a person who has demonstrated professional competency and who is actively working to help establish the role of the technician in pharmacy services. The criteria for this award are as follows:

  • Service to his/her institution or area of patient service.
  • Involvement in councils and technician academy membership.
  • Contributes to the local community.
  • Volunteer participation in professional and community activities.
  • Ability to communicate and interact with other professionals in the healthcare field.

 

Outstanding Student Pharmacist of the Year

Sponsored by the Indiana Pharmacists Association

This award was instituted in 1992 to honor a student of pharmacy who has been actively involved in association activities and helped promote the advancement of pharmacy. The criteria for this award are as follows:

  • Be a current student member of the IPA and be involved in association activities to promote the advancement of the profession of pharmacy.
  • Be enrolled in a pharmacy program at Butler, Manchester, or Purdue. 

President's Award

Sponsored by the Indiana Pharmacists Association
 
This award is presented by the current president to an individual with sincere appreciation for service above and beyond, and who is dedicated to the advancement of the state association.
 
 

President's Pillar

Sponsored by the Indiana Pharmacists Association
 
This award is presented by the outgoing president to their spouse for consideration of time spent away from family in leading the state association during the term of presidency.
